Beginning again...

Hi Reader,

TLDR

Long time and no email. Things making me happy. New job for almost a year. Future prospects of Tri For Travel. Some nuggets of wisdom. Get in touch!

New Beginnings

I haven't sent an email in a long time perhaps for good reason or lazy reason... Regardless wanted to send you an email now to keep you updated on my life happenings and perhaps (hopefully) share some nuggets of wisdom with you.

A lot has happened in a year. Maybe a lot, more than most, or not... Anyway I will start with the story from 2022 on to now of summer 2023.

First off, I finally moved out and started living on my own late February of 2022. In those few months I started doing what I was used to... Living alone and providing for myself as well as doing the things I like to do (different for everyone obviously).

What did that mean for me? Hell if I know and perhaps I am still in the process of figuring it out. But I started doing things that made me happy. What ever that meant for me. Do I know what the means?!? Yes, no, maybe. I'm still figuring it out...

For me, this meant doing a lot of the things I used to do (not all but some). Things like the gym, running, biking, swimming, etc... Going to the gym that is a block away has been huge for me as I enjoy being able to go there to decompress or clear my head.

Biking as you may know for me is great to get back doing as well as I have found many groups to ride bikes with in Roanoke, VA. There's something detoxifying about getting somewhere under your own power...

Perhaps this is coming from someone who has biked across the country or hiked the majority of the PCT, but there has to be something...

Regardless, these activities always filled me with joy and they continue to do so.

Something that I have also found here is trail running. Running up the 1000 foot Mill Mountain right in my back yard once a week with an incredible group of people...

This has translated to longer trail runs where I have lost myself in nature something I have always enjoyed which has resulted in longer miles including a recent 16.6 mile jaunt through the woods.

Now, the world has opened back up for me as I explore everything it has to offer again. We forget about all the things we can do because often we tell ourselves we can't. The fact is if you try, you will be surprised at what your body can do. Take my over half a marathon run through the woods recently...

The Job Front

In other perhaps less interesting news, or however you want to take it, there have been significant developments on the job front.

After abruptly, leaving Colorado at the end of September 2020, I moved to south west Virginia with no prospects of anything.

Through a series of relationships, failed jobs, and trying things I started at an old company I used to work for.

In late July of 2022 I left my in person job at an old company I used to work for in Salem, VA. At the very beginning of the next month, I started at the old company I used to work for, Pratt & Whitney, in a completely new role, customer technical service.

A bit of engineering, but a bit more of sustaining and supporting our broad customer base across the world.

This role is awesome because of all the variety that ensues. You never know everyday what you are going to wake up to or what could happen. Some people would see this as fun and some would see it as terrible.

I like it. I love being able to be continually challenged and also learn something new everyday which most of us are never given the opportunity to do so. I am also on call 24/7 so take what you make of that.

It's hard to find something that fits you so well. The right amount of challenge, thinking, and ability to fit in. Am I a good fit for a role like this? Hard to say, but coming up on a year in August it seems hopefully!

What Does This Mean?

Anyway, to get off this soap box this brings me to the meat and potatoes of this email. What does this mean for me?

I mean I hope you care or enjoyed reading this, but I wanted to give you some actionable steps you can take to improve your own life.

Obviously, I've had a hell of a 2.5 years. And for whatever reason, divine or otherwise I was allowed to continue 0n this planet.

Does this mean Tri for Travel will continue as it was in the past. I sure as hell hope not.

Were the things I provided in the past useful? I really hope so. Will those continue? Yes and no.

Obviously life changing events have life changing implications and what I do with my website should reflect that...

Clearly the frequency has decreased and I am not sure how often to keep it up. Right now I have no want to get rid of Tri for Travel. The money to keep it running is minimal. The biggest implication is the time involved.

I want to keep going because fitness and nutrition are a passion of mine. Something that perhaps I have never fully been able to realize.

I hope (or think) this will take more precedence in the future, full time or part time. I always dreamed of being an entrepreneur and took many actions to make it happen.

Were they correct? Smart? Worthwhile? Who knows...

I wanted to leave you with an action! You don't have to do it but what I am going to give you could not be more simple.

Pick one thing you want to change. Be it weight, exercise, sleep, etc...

Think about how you are going to change it. Now, scale it back 10x. Make it so simple that you are at least 9/10 confident you can do it at the interval you selected.

For example, if you want to exercise more, you may say you are going to go to the gym everyday after not going at all. I would encourage you to perhaps say you are going to go once a week. Make your new habit easy.

Pick a habit at an interval so that you are 9/10 confident you can do it. You can always scale it up...

What Do You Need

I want to be there for you. So I wanted to end this email with a simple ask.

Let me know what I can do for you. Reply to this email or shoot me a message on my linked socials!

Yours in nutrition and adventure,

Joe

Greetings, Reader! I hope all is well!! I wanted to write this email as I have been negligent in keeping you updated due to various excuses. Yes, perhaps that is somewhat valid -Being busy with work and personal activities had made posting fall to the bottom of the list. Regardless, I am happy to be sending out an email as I travel to Georgia (the country in Europe!). How has your year been going? I know most of you are not the typical person, but have you been able to complete any of your...

Hello, Reader!! How is going?!? The year is well upon us is upon us and I know this one is a BIG one for me. Have you been able to do what you set out to accomplish so far? Even if you haven't, we are still here and kicking :). I know I have been slacking on email updates, but I have been working through a lot this year & this one comes timely for me. What did you want to do this year?!? A tough question, yes. However, most years we focus on too much and try to do way too much. This makes it...
